I suggest connecting over SFTP or FTPS for added security. In Filezilla (my recommended client) you would do this by setting "host" to "sftp://nfhost.net" or "ftpes://nfhost.net" Then filling in username and password and hitting enter. Upload your index.html and other files to the public_html directory. Go to https://nfhost.net/~username to see your results.
git clone ssh://$email@example.com/~/git/nfhost.git cd nfhost make changes git add . git commit -m 'changes' git push origin master Go to https://nfhost.net/~username to see your results.
ssh firstname.lastname@example.org do whatever Go to https://nfhost.net/~username to see your results.
Q: What features come with my account?
A: Web space for static web sites. https://nfhost.net/~username URL. FTP or Git or Shell access. The ability to point domains you own at your site. No ads or any other BS.
Q: What features aren't included with my account?
A: Server side scripting including: PHP, ASP, Python, Ruby, CGI, SSI, node, etc. Database access like: MySQL, Postgres, mongo, sqlite, etc. A control panel. The ability to to host directory listings of files. The ability to password protect pages. The ability to do lots of hot-linking. Email accounts. Domains. Statistics or log access. SSL Certs. DNS. WebDAV. Static IPs. Support. Interactive site builders or script installers. Any sort of guaranteed uptime other than "I'll do my best". Backups of any sort. Any other newfangled thing--we are very much paying homage to early ISPs and partying like its 1999.
Q: What can't I host here?
A: Anything illegal, immoral or unethical. This includes but is not limited to:
If I find on my own or have a page reported to me that is questionable at all, it will be removed and your account will be deleted without any notice whatsoever.
Q: I forgot my password. Or, I want to change my password.
A: Send an email to email@example.com using the email address associated with your account and I'll change it for you. Include your public GPG key if you want me to encrypt it back to you.
Q: How do I change my email address? How can I delete my account entirely?
A: Drop an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and tell me what you want to do and I'll do it for you.
Q: How do I get the domain I own to work with your service?
A: The server is setup for virtual hosting. If you own a domain through a registrar that allows you to modify the domains "A" records, all you need to do is point the "A" record for "www" at our servers IP, which is 18.104.22.168. If you didn't let me know about your domain during your initial sign up drop an email to email@example.com with a subject of "Add vhost" and somewhere in the body put your domain. Note that it may take a while (days) for DNS changes to propagate and for you to see your changes.
Q: Is my personal information safe with you?
A: Yes. I take privacy very seriously. I will never give or share any of the information you gave me at sign up time with anybody unless I am required to do so by some forceful body. Additionally, I hate spam, so you won't be getting any from me. I'll do my best to keep general updates to once or twice a year if at all.
Q: Is there any catch? How do you make money?
A: There is no catch. I do this because I needed a place to host my own site and because I can. I make money at a real job and this is a cheap hobby for me.
